Established in 1998, the Laboratory of Aquatic Biotechnology is one of the ten advanced laboratories specializing on the research priorities of CAFS, supported by the Key Laboratory of Tropical and Subtropical Fishery Resource Application and Cultivation, MOA, the Tropical and Subtropical Fishery Genetics and Breeding Center, MOA, Guangdong Freshwater Aquatic Germplasm Repository, and the Aquatic Germplasm Base in Gaoyao. The lab consists of 12 in-service staffs, including 4 professors/associate professors and 8 assistant professors. 1doctoral and 3 master’s supervisors were appointed. By January 2018, 1 doctoral candidate had beenentitled with PhD degreeand over 50 master candidatesgraduated. It is equipped with more than 30 sets of instruments such as microscopic apparatus, quantitative fluorescence PCR, multi-mode microplate reader, capillary electrophoresis system and fully automatic inverted research microscope. Presently, the lab is dedicated to the R&D and application of cutting-edge technologies in molecular biology, mining of key functional genes, technological innovations in molecular breeding and marker-assisted selection, genetic modification and cell engineering, and new cultivated species with preferred traits. These provide strong technical support to the industrial restructuring in China's freshwater fisheries, future development of fishery sciences and comprehensive talent development.
