PRFRI is the pioneer of seed industry in Guangdong Province. Generation after generation of scientific researchers of PRFRI have continued to deeply cultivate the freshwater seed industry along the road opened by Mr. Zhong Lin, made remarkable achievements in the development of new breeding objects and improved seed cultivation, and made important contributions to Guangdong's aquatic seed industry leading the country. PRFRI has successively introduced and developed new objects such as tilapia, Macrobrachium rosenbergii, Silurus meridionalis, California perch, gem perch, pointed pond snakehead, American shad, silk tailed shad and Basa fish to the whole country. At the same time, it has made remarkable achievements in the cultivation and research of large and famous varieties of grass carp, tilapia, perch, snakehead, mandarin fish and Chinese soft shelled turtle, Eleven new aquatic varieties approved by the state were cultivated, including tilapia "Guangfu No. 1" and "Yuemin No. 1", big mouth bass "Youwei No. 1" and "Youwei No. 3", "black spotted Hybrid Snakehead", Chinese soft shelled turtle "Zhushui No. 1", cocked mandarin fish "Guangqing No. 1", Hehua carp "Ruyuan stone carp No. 1". The promotion of these new objects and varieties has improved the national aquaculture structure, greatly improved the economic, social and ecological benefits, and supported Guangdong to become the "world's largest freshwater fish seed industry base" to meet the needs of more than 60% of the country's aquatic seedlings.

After three consecutive years of pilot cultivation, the male rate of "male snakehead 1" is more than 93%, the overall growth rate is increased by more than 25%, the feed input of the same yield is reduced by 8-20%, the income per mu in the main production area of Guangdong is increased by 30000-50000 yuan, and the comprehensive benefit is increased by more than 40%. It is a revolutionary new breeding variety with grain, land, high value and high efficiency, It will play an important role in winning the turnaround of seed industry and Rural Revitalization Strategy.
