Recently, Guangdong Zoological Society announced the list of the first "Lingnan Animal and Plant Science and Technology Award" winners. The Pearl River Fisheries Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences won 3 such awards, including 1 first prize and 2 second prizes.
Led by researcher Wang Qing, the "Research and Application of Virus Disease Diagnosis and Immune Control Technology for Major Freshwater Fish in Guangdong Province" won the first prize of Lingnan Animal and Plant Science and Technology Award. The project systematically carried out the continuous monitoring of grass carp haemorrhagic disease, koi herpesvirus disease, and tilapia lake virus disease, established multiple virus sensitive fish cell lines, developed detection technologies that meet different application scenarios, and created vaccine preparations with different application methods. The project results have reduced the risk of major and new viral diseases of freshwater fish breaking out and spreading in China, improved the detection ability and prevention and control technology level of new exotic diseases, and achieved significant social, economic and ecological benefits.
The "Cultivation and Application of New Varieties of Pony Carp" led by researcher Zhu Huaping won the second prize of Lingnan Animal and Plant Science and Technology Award. The project has carried out the cultivation of new varieties of Hehua carp suitable for rice field cultivation and the research, promotion and application of supporting technologies, cultivated a new variety of Hehua carp "Ruyuan No. 1" dedicated to comprehensive rice and fishery cultivation, established large-scale seedling breeding technology and early propagation technology, realized the annual supply of seedlings, and formulated relevant technical operation procedures.
