On June 26, the Fisheries and Aquaculture Division of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (hereinafter referred to as "FAO") organized the kick-off meeting of FAO Reference Centres for Antimicrobial Resistance and Aquaculture Biosecurity, Ms. Maria Helena Semedo, Deputy Director-General of FAO, Ambassador Guang Defu, Permanent Representative of China to FAO, Manuel Barange, Director-General of Fisheries and Aquaculture Division, Vice President of Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences (hereinafter referred to as "CAFS") President Lin Xiangming, President of Mississippi State University Mark Keenum, Vice Chancellor of Indonesian University Vishal Hegde, as well as leaders and related personnel of Reference Centres from China, the United States, and India. The kick-off meeting will be held in the form of global online live broadcast. Researcher Wang Qing, head of the Reference Centres of the Pearl River Fisheries Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as "PRFRI"), was invited to participate in the kick-off meeting.
Wang Qing from PRFRI participated in the panel discussion and expressed his views on how to reduce AMR in the aquatic industry to achieve "One Health" and blue transformation goals. She pointed out that the problem of bacterial resistance is one of the biggest threats to public health in the world. Human, animal and environmental health are interrelated. Raising people's awareness of the responsible and prudent use of antimicrobials in aquaculture is crucial to combating aquaculture. The AMR in is very important. From a One Health perspective, aggressive action at both government and aquaculture practitioner levels is required to minimize antimicrobial use. In the question and exchange session, researcher Wang Qing introduced that on the issue of combating AMR in china, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs organized the National Aquatic Animal Disease Monitoring Plan and Animal Source Bacterial Resistance Monitoring Plan, and promulgated the "Aquaculture Medicine manual" guidance Farmers choose and use medicines correctly in aquaculture.
Dr. Melba Reantaso, director of the Food Safety, Nutrition and Health, Fisheries and Aquaculture Division of the FAO, organized a closed-door meeting of the reference center, and had heated discussions on the reference center's annual work plan, capacity building, joint research, resource acquisition, etc., and formed a preliminary work plan. In the afternoon, a technical seminar themed "Challenges and Possible Solutions to Mitigate AMR" was held, and each reference center introduced the situation of the center and the specific work carried out for AMR and biosecurity in aquaculture. 10 experts from the reference center and officials from FAO shared various solutions to alleviate AMR. A total of more than 140 people participated in the technical seminar online and offline. Researcher Wang Qing made two oral reports entitled "Pearl River Fisheries Research Institute Reference Center and AMR&AB Related Work Introduction", "Aquaculture Antimicrobial Alternative Products Development and Application", and introduced the Pearl River Institute as the reference center supporting unit history and background, staff composition, platform conditions, working basis, etc., and detailed descriptions of vaccines, Chinese herbal medicines, yolk antibodies, phages, probiotics (prebiotics, synbiotics, etc.), SPF seedlings and other antimicrobial drug substitutions in aquaculture The status quo of product development and application.
On June 28-30, researcher Wang Qing accompanied the delegation to Hungary for a visit. The delegation met with Dr. Laszlo Varadi, President at Network of Aquaculture Centers in Central and Eastern Europe (NACEE), and Dr. Bela Halasi Kovacs, director of theResearch Institute for Fisheries and Aquaculture (HAKI) , and relevant scientific researchers. They participated in discussions on the scientific research, training Cooperation in talent cultivation and signing of memorandums of understanding. Researcher Wang Qing showed the latest progress in Freshwater fish breeding, breeding, disease prevention and control and other fields of the PRFR in the form of PPT, and had a preliminary discussion with Dr. Bela Halasi Kovacs on possible follow-up cooperation.
This visit displayed the latest achievements in the aquaculture field of China and the Pearl River, strengthened the exchange and communication between international peers, opened up new cooperation directions in the future, and enhanced our influence in relevant international fields.
