On 28 July, 2021, the China Academy of Aquatic Sciences, commissioned by the Department of Science, Technology and Education of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, organised an inspection and acceptance of the project "Joint Research and Prevention and Control of Freshwater Aquaculture Diseases in Southeast Asian Countries" (2016-X57) undertaken by Pearl River Fisheries Research Institute (hereinafter referred to PRFRI) in Guangzhou.
On behalf of the project team, researcher Shi Cunbin of PRFRI reported the implementation and achievements of the project to the acceptance experts.
During the project implementation period, 25 visits were sent to Southeast Asian countries, eight experts and scholars from Southeast Asian countries were invited to China for academic exchanges, and the "Guangdong-ASEAN Fisheries Cooperation Workshop (2016)" and "China-Southeast Asian Countries International Academic Seminar on Freshwater Aquaculture Disease Prevention and Control (2017)" were successfully held. The workshop provided a comprehensive understanding of the freshwater aquaculture situation, epidemiology, disease prevention and control and related technology needs of Southeast Asian countries, compiled a research report on the freshwater aquaculture and disease situation in Southeast Asian countries, and established a preliminary database on prevention and control technology needs; established various detection techniques for tilapia lake virus, constructed a tilapia lactococcus gene. A vaccine for the deficient strain of Streptococcus lactis was constructed, and a demonstration of regionalised prevention and control technologies for grass carp haemorrhagic disease and tilapia streptococcal disease was carried out. The experts listened to the report and carefully reviewed the acceptance materials submitted by the project team. After questioning and defending, the acceptance team considered that the project had completed the indicators specified in the contract and agreed to pass the acceptance.
